The Bicycle — the RV of the 1980s

On December 26, 1984 Sandy Young and I flew from Columbia, SC to San Diego, CA for a three week visit my parents. While there I planned to attend the week long (January 4-10) Bikecentennial Bicycle Touring Leadership Training Course. Bikecentennial is now known as Adventure Cycling. Much of what I learned was similar to the AYH Leadership course that I had taken June 16-30, 1984 in North Carolina. I ended up leading trips for AYH (now known as Hostelling International USA) because they offered European trips as well as trips in the US. Bikecentennial only offers US tours. This was Sandra’s first trip to the West Coast. I had grown up in San Diego. Sandra stayed with my parents while I was at the course.

I always had an interest in online media and the creation of content but I doubted my abilities to be in a learning environment again after so many years

I guess my first lesson learnt, is that the only way to achieve something I’m truly passionate about is to take the risk and put myself out there, not shy away from the thought.
